Vijay Bhatia is Adjunct Professor at Macquarie University, Australia and also at the University of Malay, Kuala Lumpur. He is the founding President of the LSP and Professional Communication Association for the Asia-Pacific Rim. He recently retired as Professor in the Department of English at the City University of Hong Kong. His research interests include, genre analysis of professional discourses, including, legal, business, newspaper, and advertising genres, and ESP and Professional Communication (Theory and Practice). His most recent international research project on International Arbitration Practice: A Discourse Analytical Study had about 30 researchers and professionals from more than 15 countries. He has published more than 100 journal papers and about 20 books. He is best known for his two books, Analysing Genre: Language use in Professional Settings (1993) and Worlds of Written Discourse: A Genre-based View (2004), and currently writing his third on Critical Genre Theory.
